Man Pleads Guilty to Violently Killing Camden NJ Woman, Setting Fire to Body
September 15, 2016
The defendant in a Camden NJ homicide case is set to spend 30 years in state prison after pleading guilty to first degree murder charges. The suspect was 24 years old when he committed the brutal murder on February 8, 2013. According to Camden County prosecutors, the suspect attacked the 38-year-old victim at an abandoned house located on the 1700 block of Tioga Street in Camden, New Jersey. The suspect used a knife to stab the victim more than 30 times, resulting in catastrophic injuries to her back and stomach. Afterwards, the suspect reportedly set fire to the victim’s body in an attempt to destroy the evidence of his violent crime. The suspect then allegedly stole the victim’s Family First card and used it to make a number of purchases at a Camden NJ grocery store. Camden County detectives investigated the murder and were able to use DNA evidence retrieved from the scene of the crime to identify the suspect as the likely killer. At the time police made the discovery, the suspect was already being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility on an unrelated charge. The suspect, who is from Camden NJ, faced a potential punishment of life in New Jersey State Prison if the case had gone to trial. Instead, the suspect has been sentenced to a term of incarceration of 30 years after reaching a plea agreement with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect later had second thoughts and attempted to withdraw his acceptance of the deal. Despite the suspect’s objection, the Camden County Superior Court judge upheld the plea agreement and ordered that the suspect be sentenced to 30 years behind bars for his violent actions.
